The Spaniard heard John Nores on some favorite podcasts and reached out. John’s book ”Hidden War” describes the jaw-dropping ways that game wardens bravely combat black market cannabis grow sites that steal water and poison the surroundings with toxic pesticides. John became a game warden to protect wildlife and execute traditional tasks such as checking fishing licenses, stopping poachers and teaching hunter safety. He and his colleagues could never have foreseen that the work would come to require detecting and defeating the efforts of drug cartels. This means surviving gunfights, stabbings, booby traps, poison dog bait and more—often within eyeshot of Google, Facebook and other tech giants in Silicon Valley. This is the demanding, rewarding, vital life on the Thin Green Line.
